Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate a sales bonus?
- Multiply the target bonus by your payout percentage. Up to 100% of quota the payout usually equals attainment; above it, each extra point is multiplied by the accelerator. At 110% with a 1.5x accelerator the payout is 100 + 10 × 1.5 = 115%, so a $10,000 target pays $11,500.
- How much tax is taken out of a bonus?
- In the US, employers often withhold a flat 22% federal rate on bonuses up to $1 million, plus Social Security, Medicare and any state tax. Many other countries tax a bonus like normal salary. Withholding is not your final tax bill, so enter the rate that applies to you.
- What if I am below 100% of quota?
- This calculator pays in proportion: 80% attainment pays 80% of the target bonus. Many plans also have a threshold, such as no bonus below 50% of quota. Check your comp plan and enter 0% attainment if you are under its threshold.
