Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate sales growth?
- Subtract last period's revenue from this period's and divide by last period's. $400,000 to $460,000 is 15% growth.
- Month over month or year over year?
- Year over year removes seasonality and is better for reporting. Month over month is useful for early-stage companies that change quickly.
- How do I compare growth over several years?
- Use the compound annual growth rate: (end ÷ start)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. It gives one yearly rate that leads from the first value to the last.
